IN A rebuttal to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks regarding the compensation given to the people in Ayodhya affected by the construction of the Ram Temple, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday shared details of the amount disbursed.
Reacting to Gandhi’s claims in the Lok Sabha, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “Congress is a web of lies. The truth is that Rs 1,733 crore has been provided to the people of Ayodhya as compensation. Whether it is for Ram Path, Bhakti Path, Janmabhoomi Path or the airport, those whose land, shops or houses were affected have been compensated. We have built shops for those who had space and for those who didn’t, we have constructed multi-level complexes.”
According to the state government, Rs 952.39 crore compensation was given to those affected by the construction of Ayodhya Airport, Rs 295 crore for Ayodhya Bypass (Ring Road), Rs 14.12 crore for Ram Janmabhoomi Path, Rs 23.66 crore for Bhakti Path, Rs 114.69 crore for Rampath, Rs 29 crore for Panchkosi Parikrama Marg, Rs 119.20 crore for Chaudah Kosi Parikrama Marg, Rs 35.03 lakh for the construction of railway doubling between Rudauli and Rozagaon railway stations, Rs 163.90 crore for the construction of NH 330A, Rs 21.09 crore under package 3 of NH 227B.
A total of 21,548 individuals in Ayodhya have been compensated so far, the government said.
Earlier, as Gandhi’s remarks in his Lok Sabha speech kicked up a row, Adityanath on Monday asked the Congress leader to apologise for “hurting” not just the community but the “soul of Mother India.”
In his debut speech as the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi triggered a row when he said those who call themselves Hindus are engaged in “violence and hate” round the clock.
His remarks drew protests from the members of the treasury benches.
In a post on X in Hindi, Adityanath said, “Hindu is the soul of India. Hindu is synonymous with tolerance, generosity and gratitude. We are proud that we are Hindus!” “How will the ‘prince’ of the group that calls itself ‘accidental Hindus’ and which is immersed in the politics of Muslim appeasement, understand this? You should apologise to crores of Hindus of the world Rahul ji! Today you have not hurt a community but the soul of Mother India,” he said.
In the fiery speech, Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP, asserting that Hinduism is not about spreading fear, hatred and falsehoods.
His remarks came during a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the president’s address to a joint sitting of Parliament.
The Congress leader further emphasised that all religions talk about courage, citing Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism to underline the importance of fearlessness.
Earlier, while addressing a flood review meeting here, Adiyanath emphasised that safety of people and property is the top priority during floods and said that effective coordination and swift action are essential for flood relief and rescue operations.

He said fresh food will be provided in flood relief camps and there will be no compromise on the quality of relief material.
