Delhi News Live Updates: Delhiites woke up to a light drizzle today with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a ‘yellow’ alert till July 23. Earlier this week, residents and commuters faced major challenges with waterlogging and traffic disruptions as the Palam, Ridge, Delhi University and Pusa stations recorded 31.8 mm, 37.2 mm, 37.5 mm, and 35 mm of rain, respectively.
Meanwhile, a day after Delhi Finance Minister Atishi demanded an allocation of Rs 10,000 crore for the Delhi government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Mayor Shelly Oberoi claimed that the Centre has meted out ‘step-motherly treatment’ to the Capital and wrote a letter to the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asking for“a fair and equitable” share of the Centre’s funds for the development and maintenance.
What else is happening? Adverse weather conditions have led to prices soaring to Rs 100 per kg in retail markets for tomatoes, according to the data compiled by the Department of Consumer Affairs. A senior official from the department had last week attributed the sharp rise in prices to disruption in supplies caused by extreme heat followed by spells of excess rainfall.
