57-yr-old booked for assaulting woman on 2-wheeler | Pune News

Pune police have booked a 57-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a 27-year-old woman on a two-wheeler in Pune’s Baner-Pashan Link Road on Saturday afternoon. The complainant Jernyl D’Silva, a social media content creator, had posted a video of herself that showed her bleeding from her nose, which was shared widely on social media.

In the brief video, D’Silva said that the man, who is unknown to her, chased her bike in his car for a couple of kilometres and finally forced her to stop, and then assaulted her. She was travelling with two young children at that time.

Police have booked the accused Ashok Kokre (57) under sections 118, 74, 115, 352 of Indian Penal Code and sections 119/77 and 184 of Motor Vehicles Act that deal with breaking traffic rules and overspeeding.

“I was with two children on Baner-Pashan Link Road. An old man was following us for two kms. He was overspeeding and he took a left turn to intercept me, and then got out of the car furiously. He punched me twice and pulled my hair. He didn’t care about the kids…I want to ask how safe is the city? Why are people behaving like maniacs? I want this man to be punished for what he did to me…”

Officers of Chaturshringi police station confirmed that they have received a complaint about the incident and that the accused person has been identified. “An offence has been registered against him,” said Shamal Patil, police sub inspector, Chatushrungi Police Station.
